Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) I performs basic patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, appropriately escalating to the nurse any changes related to the patient's condition, and activities of daily living (ADL's). The PCT I provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity and practices patient and family centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: (None)

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by (AHA) American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills: No experience required. All necessary training on PCT Core Competencies will be provided by Memorial Hermann.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Direct patient care duties include but are not limited to vital signs (pre and post treatment, as applicable), visual monitoring of a patient's condition, hygiene support, toileting support, mobility support, nutrition support, bathing support, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of information. Should appropriately report any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
• Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
• Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes; follows safety rules; works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors; participates in organizational departments' safety programs; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies and procedures.
• Develops knowledge of provision of patient care, hospitalprocesses, and integrating into unit-based teams.
• Integrates into unit-based team and participates in professional governance opportunities as appropriate.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
